If anyone is visiting, or planning to visit South Africa, then consider this for inclusion in your travel plans.

Witfontein is a lovingly restored Cape Dutch farmhouse located on a private game farm in the Klein Karoo with panoramic views of the majestic Swartberg Mountains.

A private house on a private reserve, not a commercial lodge or a B&B.

Located approximately halfway between Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn, just off the famous Route 62, the area offers a brilliant side trip for anyone travelling along the Garden Route.

Witfontein can accommodate up to 10 people in 5 bedrooms (4 of which have en-suite bathrooms). There is a dining room, a sitting room and a reading room that looks out across the veldt to the Swartberg Mountains.

Stays at Witfontein are on a self catering basis and in addition to a well equipped kitchen there is a braai and a healthy supply of firewood. Oh yes, and there is a swimming pool too.

The Swartberg Private reserve is not large, just 2,000 hectares, but it is rich in wildlife with over 850 head of animals, including; Greater Kudu, Eland, Cape Mountain Zebra, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Nyala, Blesbok, Springbok, Kafue Lechwe, Reedbuck, Red Hartebeest, Gemsbok and Waterbuck.

With no predators the reserve is ideal for those who like walking and ideal for families and the dams offer a relaxed environment for those who enjoy fishing.

Within the immediate vicinity are the towns of Oudtshoorn, Calitzdorp, Prince Albert as well as the World Heritage sites of the Swartberg Pass and Cango Caves.

Costs

The cost is ZAR2000 per night (+VAT) for the whole house (increasng to ZAR3000 per night over Christmas and Easter holidays) and includes services of a cleaner once a week. If you wish the cleaner to visit more frequently, this can be arranged at addition cost and if you would rather not do your own cooking, we can arrange for a local couple to come and prepare meals for you.
