Maasai Mara introduces Smartcard entry

With immediate effect, the Masai Mara authority (Narok Country Council) in conjunction with a local bank, have launched a Smartcard System to replace the park ticket. The smartcard will be the ONLY accepted mode of payment and access to the Masai Mara National Reserve. You won’t be able to get in without one!

To obtain a smart card we need to know in advance the following client information:

  • NAMES
  • NATIONALITY
  • DATE OF BIRTH
  • PASSPORT NUMBER

This information has to be submitted prior to arrival at Maasai Mara to allow time for the processing/preparation of the smartcard.

This new entry requirement will be applicable to all clients visiting the reserve. Similar to an airline e-ticket, the smartcard will be name specific and each client gets his/ her own smartcard, failure to which will result to denied entry. The smartcard may well contain additional personal information which we will advise as soon as we have full information.
