For those in search of a very special safari experience Botswana is hard to beat. Whilst other countries have succumbed to a more mass market approach to tourism, Botswana has steadfastly held its ground as a more exclusive destination. The country’s geography has helped in this regard; with the vast expanse of the Okavango Delta surrounding many of the camps and lodges with water, necessitating the use of light aircraft and boats. With the majority of the camps located in private concessions, the result is an authentic, high quality safari with few other vehicles to spoil the ambiance.
The Chobe Enclave, located to the north east of the Okavango, bordering Chobe National park, is best known for the large populations of elephant and buffalo that congregate in vast numbers especially during the dry season. Lion, sable, roan, leopard, wild dog, and a number of the plains game can also be viewed here. The rare and elusive sitatunga antelope, red lechwe, hippo and crocodile can be found in the surrounding marshes. The area is very good for bird-watching, in particular there is a high concentration of raptors and owls.
